A specialist pathway into SEND mediation
- The SEND Mediation Training Programme is an advanced, practice-led course for accredited and experienced mediators who wish to specialise in mediating disputes within the field of Special Educational Needs and Disability.
- This is a rigorous and meaningful programme that equips mediators to work confidently, ethically, and competently in highly sensitive SEND contexts — supporting families, local authorities, and professionals to find resolution and move forward in the best interests of children and young people.
- We don’t just train you. We support you into real casework.
- Our programme includes structured, supervised casework as part of your accreditation pathway — not something you have to find on your own.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for:
- Accredited mediators who have already completed foundation mediation training
- Mediators with experience of live practice
- Practitioners with interest or experience in SEND (education, health, social care or related fields)
- Mediators committed to inclusion, fairness, and ethical practice
- Applicants must have completed a recognised Foundation Mediation Training (minimum 40 hours) that meets national mediation standards.
What makes SEND mediation different?
SEND mediation requires mediators to:
- Work within a complex legislative framework
- Balance power carefully across multiple parties
- Ensure the voice of the child or young person is central
- Navigate emotionally charged, high-stakes conversations
- Maintain neutrality while holding compassion and clarity
This programme prepares mediators to do exactly that — safely, confidently, and professionally.
The programme is delivered in two parts:
Part A: Taught Component
Modules 1–4 (delivered through taught training)
- Legislative framework for SEND mediation

- Supported reflective practice and development planning
Mediators are supported throughout by an experienced SEND mediator mentor.
