The Course Experience

This training course encourages active participation, so the more you put in the more you get out. There is a mix of group work, discussion, and role-plays. Participants will also be expected to complete a portfolio in order to complete their training and receive their certificate of attendance.

Learning Topics

  • Skills – Active listening, questioning techniques, rapport, body language, summarising, empathy, separating facts from feelings, negotiation, self-awareness, conflict management styles, red flags, hooks and triggers, assertiveness, and managing difficult behaviour.

Course Aims

  • Explore what conflict means for people and enable them to understand different responses to conflict
  • Communicate clearly what mediation is and how it compares with other resolution methods
  • Build an understanding of how people in disputes think, feel, and behave, and how this contributes to the dispute
  • Enhance participant’s self-awareness and develop reflective practice
  • To cover the mediation process
  • To give participants practice in using mediation skills
  • To help participants decide what is mediatable and what is not
  • Enable people to deal with conflict more effectively

Training Standards

  • College of Mediators – Approved Interpersonal Mediation Skills Foundation Training Course
  • CPD Certification Service – Certified Interpersonal Mediation Skills Foundation Training Course

The course is designed to help people resolve interpersonal disputes and is particularly helpful for disputes between work colleagues, organisations & customers, family members, neighbours, etc.

Upcoming Training Dates

Our next course will be run over 8 half days delivered on Zoom and 1 full day of in-person assessment. Dates for our next open course are:

Price

  • Open Course – we charge just £1095 per delegate for those who wish to attend on the dates outlined above
  • In-House Course – prices for in-house training start from as little as £5,500 (for up to 14 delegates).  Should you wish to book more than one in-house training course then we can offer a discount on the pricing quoted above.  Please contact us to discuss your needs and agree on course dates.

Additional Information – In-House Courses

The price quoted above for in-house delivery does not cover venue hire or refreshments/lunch.  If you wanted us to provide a venue, etc then we would need to agree on a price and include this charge in addition to the above price quoted.

We are also able to deliver the course fully online; typically this takes place over 10 half-day sessions via zoom, or we can deliver using a combination of online and in-person training sessions.

Benefits

Unlike other courses where the direct practice is not introduced until much later on the course, thus requiring trainees to arrange their own ‘observations’ and ‘assessments’ beyond the course (often at further cost), our training gives continuous practice throughout so that you are ready to start practicing immediately the course is over.

We embed a reflective-practice approach into our training and support trainees in using this so that they have a continuous practice development tool for use beyond the course when they start to take on cases.

We provide post-course support to help you continue your mediation journey and to help you develop as a mediator. We don’t train you and forget you, you will have access to networks (North West, Midlands, College of Mediators) of like-minded people who can provide support, ongoing learning opportunities, and information. We are always happy to talk and provide information about our experience in developing our service.
