Keep Britain Working – College of Mediators Response

Martin Ellis (College Chair) and Louisa Spicer (College Director), both workplace mediators, have written the attached response document to express support from the College of Mediators for the ‘Keep Britain Working’ report by Sir Charlie Mayfield in November 2025, especially regarding how alternative dispute resolution or ADR can be used in the workplace to help organisations and employees when people plan to return to work, maybe after illness or injury. The document offers help from the College to government in making progress with the recommendation it contains, primarily with workplace mediation as we have 90 members whose primary or secondary mediation role is workplace mediation.

The document has been shared with the two Secretaries of State to who the Mayfield report was written;

  • Pat McFadden at the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), and;
  • Peter Kyle at the Department of Business and Trade

It has also been shared with the team in the DWP taking forward the recommendations in the Mayfield report.

Louisa and I hope the response document is of interest to all College members, especially those who are workplace mediators. Please feel free to let us know if you have any thoughts; our email addresses are at the end of the response document.’
