Global Mediation is excited to confirm thier next SEND Mediation Training Course (Approved by the College of Mediators and the Civil Mediation Council) will be delivered on 11th and 12th July 2023.

Venue to be confirmed shortly, this will be in the North London/Hertfordshire area.

The course is for qualified and experienced mediators wishing to specialise in the field of Special Educational Needs and Disability mediation.

The course covers both the theory and professional practice elements required to become an accredited SEND mediator, and includes a pre-course SEND mediation observation, an induction event and guidance on pre-course reading and preparation. The course is structured as follows:

Taught component over two days in person, covering the following four modules and including all refreshments, lunch and course materials:

  • Legislative Framework
  • Contextual Knowledge
  • Local Processes and Procedures
  • Mediation Practice and Conduct of Cases

Professional Practice: This element of the course offers the opportunity to take part in three SEND mediation meetings as 1) an observer, 2) a co-mediator, 3) the lead mediator whilst observed/assessed. This element of the course is fully supported by an experienced, accredited SEND mediator and will include coaching and guidance throughout. It is expected that this part of the course will take between 3-12 months depending on individual circumstances and tutor availability. A full DBS clearance is required to participate in this element of the course – the fee is included in the course fee and the application is carried out by Global Mediation. Please note that on occasion, additional supported cases may be required to reach the required standard in order to achieve accreditation which carry an additional fee.

Upon successful completion of the SEND Mediation Training course, there will be support for you in registering with the COM and the CMC as an accredited SEND mediator and support you in exploring how to further your practice in this area.
